CNC Mode vs Laser Mode
What changes when you switch between CNC Mode and Laser Mode in Laetoly, which settings each mode uses, and which materials suit each one.

Overview
Laetoly has two working modes, CNC Mode and Laser Mode. This tutorial explains how they differ, which settings each one uses and which materials each one suits. A design can use only one mode at a time, and the mode switch is in the toolbar. Switching modes changes the available tools and settings, so clear the canvas before you switch.
CNC Mode
CNC removes material with a cutting tool, so depth matters. The tool cuts the material in multiple passes. The key settings are:
| Setting | What it controls |
|---|---|
| Tool Diameter | The size of the cutting tool |
| Feed Rates | How fast the tool moves |
| Spindle Speed | How fast the spindle turns |
| Depth per Pass | How deep each pass cuts |
In CNC Mode these settings apply to the whole design.
Laser Mode
Laser Mode focuses mainly on Speed and Power. It is useful for engraving or cutting 2D designs. Two more settings matter:
- Interval controls the resolution.
- Pass sets the number of passes.
Each layer can use different settings.
Which mode should you use?
- CNC works with materials such as wood, plastic and soft metals such as aluminum. It is less suited to detailed photo engraving. Relief Carving is covered in another tutorial.
- Laser works well with materials such as wood, leather and cardboard. Avoid transparent glass for this workflow.
Choose the mode that fits your project.
