Toolpath & G-code

Updated 2025-11-03

This guide helps you understand and use toolpaths and G-code in the current project to achieve more stable and controllable machining results. Follow the steps—no technical background required.

What Are Toolpaths?

  • Toolpaths are the device’s motion routes on the material, turning your design into executable machining paths.
  • Different machining modes (engraving, scribing, cutting, relief) use different movement patterns and sequences.
  • Simply put: a toolpath is the machine’s plan for where to go next.

Which Tool Should I Use?

  • Choose by material: for example wood, acrylic, leather, etc.
  • Choose by desired effect: small designs with many details or dense lines suit finer tools; large areas suit more robust tools.
  • Prioritize stability: worn or poor-condition tools affect results; replace or service as needed.
  • Test small samples first: performance varies by material–tool combinations; start with a small trial.

Toolpath Generation Fails or Shows Errors?

  • Check design clarity: overly complex images/graphics or unclear edges can hinder generation.
  • Simplify content: remove unnecessary fine elements and complex backgrounds; keep key shapes and outlines.
  • Confirm boundaries: ensure your design is within the machine’s workable area.
  • Save and retry: save the project, then rerun the generation process.
  • Close and reopen: close the current project or page, re-enter, and try again.

Toolpath Simulation Looks Incorrect?

  • Re-preview: switch preview modes or zoom in/out; focus on edges and transition regions.
  • Clear occlusions: hide or remove unneeded layers and elements to avoid interference.
  • Simplify design: overly complex patterns may be unclear in simulation; streamline and try again.
  • Validate with a small cut: run a short real test to confirm alignment with expectations.

G-code Fails to Load or Shows Errors?

  • Confirm file integrity: avoid files from unknown sources or files that have been altered.
  • Avoid special characters: use common characters in filenames and paths; avoid overly long or complex names.
  • Re-export: export again from the current software to ensure correct format and content.
  • Process stepwise: for very large files, import and execute in parts or stages.
  • Reload: close the page or project, then load the file again.

Can I Use G-code from Other Software?

  • For compatibility and stability, prefer files generated by this software.
  • If using other software’s files, ensure they are suitable for your device and from trusted sources.
  • Test small samples first: verify safety and results on a small area before full runs.
  • If incompatibility or anomalies occur, regenerate with this software.

How to Save Processing Time?

  • Simplify patterns: reduce unnecessary fine textures and dense linework.
  • Arrange intelligently: group similar areas to reduce back-and-forth movement.
  • Preview first: identify unnecessary motions or redundant paths and optimize in advance.
  • Batch processing: lay out and run identical designs together to improve efficiency.
  • Confirm with small tests: start with a small area to avoid rework and repeated attempts.

  • Submit your issue through the feedback portal in the user center. Include your operating system and browser, device model, connection method, and any prompts displayed when the issue occurred.
